| Vote on the DFM III Wage |
Dear Membership, The E-board has completed negotiations for the DFM III wage and has a tentative agreement for 11.5% above the current DFM II which is 6% above Lieutenant. The DFM III also receives EMT Premium pay at the 94% Day rate. As previously negotiated this position will not be allowed to work call shifts but will be allowed to work emergency callback and possibly transfers if they can’t get someone. The MOA about the DFM III position we already agreed to as well as the DFM III job description is still up for review on our website for those who may be interested. The City’s original offer was 1.5% above Lieutenant and we fought to get it up to 6% above Lieutenant to make it more attractive to internal suppression personnel. The City does plan to post the position soon and it will be open to the outside as well. Please go to Local 845 website and vote on whether or not you agree to the proposed wage for DFM III. Voting will be open for 10 days. The proposed salary schedule is attached to an email sent to your city email account. As always feel free to contact Prez. Katz or myself with questions, Fraternally, Lehman (Loftin)

In an attempt to keep the website moving forward this year we have assigned the the following areas of research be completed and presented in a format that can be loaded to website by July 1st. This will increase our members ability to access info when we are not around. If you have input or want to help in any of these areas please contact the RP's below. Cooper: PERS: Explaining how Tier 1, Tier 2 and OPSERP retirement will work for our members. The differences in each and any other useful info. Lindsey: FSLA: Explain how it applies to Firefighters and how to analyze our pay checks for accuracy. Surmeier: Worker's Comp: Provide information of how worker's comp relates to us legally and contractually. A guide for work place injury. Zimmerman: Insurance Plans (current insurance plans and costs), Seniority List Hurley: A clean document with Garrity, Weingarten and DFR rights. Once this is done we will give it to Webmaster wack to post. Fraternally, Loftin

| The latest at Local 845 |

We have had several changes here at AFD since our last contract ratified in November 2007. First the creation of the Training Lieutenant, then the institution of EMT-I orders with premium pay and now the latest is the new job descriptions for Deputy Fire Marshals. These Memorandums of Agreement and new job descriptions will be available on the Fire-everyone drive in the Local 845 folder and on our site with the contract soon (hopefully by the time you read this). The changes in the Deputy Fire Marshal positions are a step forward and should allow for some future opportunities so please take the time to read them. There is now MOA and Job description language that will allow for lateral entry into the prevention side and back if desired. There is also a new DFM III job class designed for AIC LT or like certified members who are looking for some new challenges. The first position that will post is DFM- Public Educator which posts next week. The new DFM III position is anticipated to post in about 2 months, we are just starting to negotiate the wage scale now. These postings will be open to internal and external candidates to ensure an adequate pool of applicants with that said internal candidates will have a great advantage as they are known to the department. I encourage all of our members to review the new changes and to talk with Fire Marshal Mike Trabue about the positions. He has been absolutely excellent to work with and from the feedback I am getting he is great to work for as well. Fraternally, Vice Prez Loftin
